ABSTRACT
Objective@#To evaluate the effect of continuous embedding on the improvement of mild epicanthus by studying the change of intercanthal distance and inner canthus angle in patients perioperatively.@*Methods@#In this study, 34 patients with single eyelid and mild epicanthus were analyzed retrospectively. Procedure included small incisions combined with continuous embedding double eyelid surgery. The photo of eyes was taken in the front position preoperatively and postoperatively. Before operation, 3-months, 6 months-after operation, intercanthal distance and inner canthal angle of both eyes were measured by Photoshop CS6. The iris diameter scale was used to measure intercanthal distance.@*Results@#Preoperative intercanthal distance (PRICD) values were 65.96±4.94 (iris diameter scale), 3-month-postoperative intercanthal distance (3POICD) values were 63.43±5.04 (iris diameter scale), and 6-month-postoperative intercanthal distance (6POICD) values were 63.82±5.02 (iris diameter distance). Preoperative inner-canthal angle of the left eye (PRCAL) values were (47.51±4.28)°, preoperative inner-canthal angle of the right eye (PRCAR) values were (47.30±4.55)°, 3-month-preoperative inner-canthal angle of the left eye (3POCAL) values were (49.53±5.15)°. 3-month-preoperative inner-canthal angle of the right eye (3POCAR) values were (49.24±4.86)°, 6 month-postperative inner-canthal angle of the left eye (6POCAL) values were (49.48±4.74)°, and 6 month-postperative inner-canthal angle of the right eye (6POCAR) values were (48.99±4.55)°. The difference between PRICD and 3POICD, PRICD and 6POICD, PRCAL and 3POCAL, PRCAL and 6POCAL, PRCAR and 3POCAR, PRCAR and 6POCAR were statistically significant (t=6.432, 6.307, -2.882, -3.188, -2.516, -2.248, P<0.05). The difference between 6POICD and 3POICD was statistically significant (t=4.047, P<0.05); moreover, the mean value of 6POICD was larger than the mean value of 3POICD. There was no significant difference between 6POCAL and 3POCAL, and 6POCAR and 3POCAR (t=0.352, P>0.05).@*Conclusions@#According to the result of the study, the continuous embedding method has a certain effect on shortening the intercanthal distance and changing the inner canthal angle. It is inferred that the continuous embedding method has a certain effect on the improvement of mild epicanthus.
ABSTRACT
Objective To investigate the causes,the prevention and the treatment of the complications of blepharoplasty for double eyelids.Methods The clinical data,the surgery methods and the causes were analyzed in 100 cases of blepharoplasty from July 2011 to December 2017.Results All of these patients underwent these perfect procedures with satisfied anesthesia.Incisions were all healed in one stage with no infection.Double eyelid width was (7.0± 1.2) mm with natural and smooth lines after 3 months operation,86 patients (86％) had double eyelid with natural and smooth lines,slight scars and good bilateral symmetry.14 patients (14％) required surgical revision for complications,as asymmetry of supratarsal folds (7 ％),over narrow of supratarsal folds (4 ％),over width of supratarsal folds (2 ％),disappearance of supratarsal folds (2 ％),multiple eyelid (3 ％) and ptosis (1％),and the effects were satisfactory.Conclusions In order to achieve the natural and smooth double eyelids,it is important for plastic surgeons to have the comprehensive grasp of overall outline and operational details in blepharoplasty for double eyelids.Preoperative design should be accurate,intraoperative procedures should be careful,and postoperative care should be standardized.
ABSTRACT
ObjectiveTo improve an obvious postoperative man-made crease when eyes closed and to achieve the optimal cosmetic and functional results.MethodsExposing and scissoring the levator aponeurosis were performed to make it move freely.Fairly infra-incision and lower margin orbicularis oculi muscle were cut.The double eyelids were formed by fixing the palpebral dermis of the lower skin flap onto the levator aponeurosis.ResultsThe follow-up of 580 patients (1160 eyes) showed that double eyelid crease were natural and fluent,eyelashes raised slightly,there was no an obvious postoperative man-made crease when eyes closed,and there was no sausage-appearing. Conclusions The method is quick,with minor injury and fast restoration. There is no sausage appearance and an obvious man-made crease when eyes are closed,and so double eyelids are natural and nice,the postoperative results are all aesthetically and functionally pleased.
ABSTRACT
Objective To explore the synchronous cosmetic surgical procedures for the beauty-seekers who have both single eyelid and commonly horizontal cockeye in order to acheive either time saving or beautifying. Methods Firstly, the distance of moving backwards and shortening length of the eye muscle were calculated and designed according to the degree of cockeye; secondly, the height of the double eyelids line and positioning were re-designed; then the moving backwards and shortening of the horizontal macula were put up to rectify the cockeye; finally, the incisal double eyelid operation was performed. Results All 25 patients with inner cockeyes were corrected at the right position; 4 of 11 patients with outer cockeyes were corrected 5～10 degrees over the right position, and others were at the right position. The single eyelid with thin-eyelid and middle-thick-eyelid restored within 3 months; but the patient with thick-eyelid restored slowly, about half a year in average. 2 patients with redundant skin at inner corner of eye were also corrected at the right position. Conclusions Although there is somewhat difficulty in the plastic surgery for patients with cockeye and single eyelids, synchronous operation can save time and outlay, and also acheive the aim of beautifying. Therefore, it is a good approach to deal with cockeye.
